Extrusion granulation is a relatively new dry granulation process for the production of compound fertilizers.

Extrusion granulation was first used in potassium chloride granulation in the field of fertilizer. The granular (1-4mm) potassium chloride used in mixed fertilizer (BB fertilizer) was basically produced by extrusion method.

In recent years, extrusion granulation for the production of compound fertilizers has been developed rapidly in China.

There are two forms of extrusion granulation: roll-to-roll extrusion and roll-to-roll extrusion. The roll-to-roll extrusion is first pressed into large blocks and then crushed into particles. This device has large capacity, high particle strength and low energy consumption, and roll-to-roll extrusion is widely used abroad.

Roller rolling is the shape of groove on the surface of roll, which is extruded into granules at one time. When the strength of the product is low, it is sometimes necessary to add a binder. It is suitable for granular fertilizer such as organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer.

Working principle

The principle of roll-on-roll extrusion granulation is that dry materials are agglomerated into dense and hard blocks (cake) under pressure, which is called extrusion process, and the cake is crushed and screened to become granular material, which is called granulation process.

The effect of extrusion is to extrude the air between particles, and to make the particle spacing close enough to generate attractions such as van der Waals force, adsorption force, Crystal Bridge and embedded connection.

Extrusion granulation is mainly based on the strength of particles formed by the interaction between molecules.
